Welcome to my first blog! Let me start by introducing myself, my name is Alicia Flores. I am married to my high-school sweetheart (for 15 years now), I am mother to three energetic kiddos, and I am a nurse practitioner (by trade) although my heart lies in home design. This passion for home design has slowly been unraveling itself over the past few years. Well in reality I believe it started after I got married. I was a young bride at 19 years old. At that age is when my husband and I were furniture shopping for our 2 bedroom, 1 bath rental home. We had a tight budget and because of that we bought things that were nice….enough. I knew I wanted my house to look “put together” but it never really worked. Flash forward 15 years later and  I’m almost there with my “put together” look! Mainly by trial and error, but I’ve also learned some tricks along the way  by watching TV shows, especially HGTV shows, magazines and of course countless apps that exist now (like pintrest, instagram, etc.). In all reality though, I am happy with the projects both my husband and I have tackled however everything in this household is always a work-in-progress and I’m always growing and evolving. I’m not a professional interior designer. I don’t have a degree in it, however what I do have is experience and PASSION! Which is valuable in my book. So here I am. All of this brings me to this blog. My vision here is to share home design ideas. I will be posting mainly my personal projects, I hope you all find it enjoyable and above all inspirational! Thank you all for your support!

First Flip Project

ASPEN HOUSE

No, this house is not located in Aspen, Colorado. It’s just the street name. This was our first flip home. It was a difficult task but it was very rewarding. So much so, that we are ready to do it again! I am grateful to have a husband who besides flying planes is very handy. We completed this house in about 1 month, which is pretty good considering we both have jobs and have 3 kids. In this remodel we kept it very basic to save money. I like extravagant things but more than that I LOVE to save money! Everyone who knows me knows how frugal I can be. We kept things that were in good condition and pretty much painted everything; all the walls, kitchen cabinets, and bathroom vanities. Everything was painted a neutral color and all the trim was painted white (which was brown before). In the living room we whitewashed the fireplace, replaced the fan and kept the existing laminate flooring (it was in good condition). We completely replaced the flooring in dining, kitchen, breakfast area and both bathrooms with ceramic tile. Which in my opinion gave it a clean feel. We installed brand new carpet in all three rooms. All light fixtures were changed to give it a cohesive look, prior to that they were so outdated and mismatching. The two chandeliers from dining and breakfast area were from Habitat for Humanity Re-Store which I got for a steal! The one thing that we did sort-of splurged on was the granite countertops in kitchen and master bathroom. We thought it was necessary in order to give this house a little sparkle! Hope everyone likes this flip, yes it is simple but it’s effective. Basic changes in this house equaled fantastic results!
